BICSI ITS Technician (BICSI TE350)

Objectives

In order to qualify for the BICSI ITS Technician exam, you will be required to submit the Technician Application and Experience form stating that you have at least three years of experience in voice, data, or video telecommunications cabling installation.

Individuals preparing to sit for the ITS Technician exam must possess three or more years of current and verifiable ITS industry installation experience and hold the ITS Installer 2 or both the ITS Installer 2, Copper and ITS Installer 2, Optical Fiber credentials.

Current ITS Installer 2 credential holders in good standing only need to show proof of experience to be eligible to sit for the exam.

This form should be signed by your employer or supervisor. If you are self-employed, the form should be signed by someone in a position to reasonably attest to your experience (former employer, customer, etc.). Prior approval is required to take the ITS Technician examination. Complete the Examination Application and Experience form and Submit it to:

The ITS Technician TE350 Exam:

 

One part is a written exam
    • 150 multiple choice or true/ false questions
    • From the BICSI Telecommunications Cabling Installation Manual, 5th edition.
    • You will be allowed two hours to complete the written portion of the exam.
    • If you fail the written exam, you will need to retake the exam at a later date and pay an additional fee.
    • If you fail either the written or the hands-on portion of the examination three times, you will have to wait a full year from the date of your last exam before reapplying. information

The other part of the exam is a hands-on test:
    • You must successfully complete two ITS Technician 2 tasks to industry standards.
    • Tasks take approximately 20 minutes each to complete.
    o If you have skipped the Installer, Level 2 registration, you will also be required to complete an additional Installer, Level 2 task
    • Tasks take approximately 20 minutes to complete.
    • If you fail one of the hands-on tasks, you may retake that part on the same day at no additional cost (time permitting).
    • If you fail two or more of the hands-on tasks, you will be required to retake the test at a later date and pay a retake fee.
    • If you fail either the written or the hands-on portion of the examination three times, you will have to wait a full year from the date of your last exam before reapplying.

To get certified you need to complete the BICSI TE350 Training (BICSI-TE350)




Toward Certification

When you successfully complete the TE350 written and Hands-on exam and become a BICSI ITS Technician you are required to apply your knowledge on the job. You will receive a BICSI OJT booklet that must be completed before your two year registration can be renewed for the first time.

Preparation Tools and Resources

Also available for your use during the course is The National Electric Code Handbook, ANSI\EIA\TIA Commercial Wiring Standards, The BICSI Cabling Installation Manual, the BICSI TDMM, various training videos and other training materials.

Suggested Exam Preparation

It is recommended to attend TE350: BICSI ITS Technician Training Course as well as 50+ hours of independent or group study of the BICSI Information Transport Systems Installation Methods Manual (ITSIMM)
