Exam Development
| Q. |
I have a question that's not answered in these FAQs. How can I find the answer? |
| A. |
Send an e-mail message to training@fiberoptic.com. A FiberOptic.com staff
member will handle your request.
|
| Q. |
How can I challenge an exam question? |
| A. |
An important part of the exam development process is reviewing each exam question to ensure technical accuracy, clarity, relevance, and absence of ambiguity and bias. A thorough review also ensures that questions are not misleading or confusing. The review is conducted by a panel of independent technical and job-function experts who scrutinize each question for technical accuracy and reach consensus on all technical issues. In addition, technical editors ensure that all exam questions are without error or ambiguity.
If you believe a specific question you encountered on an FOCP exam is invalid, you may request an evaluation of the question by following the steps described below. You must submit your request within three calendar days of taking the exam. The evaluation process exists to help identify and correct problematic questions; exams cannot be rescored. However, efforts will be made to ensure your satisfaction with the program. We value your feedback in helping us make FiberOptic.com certification exams as valid and relevant as possible.
Steps for Challenging Exam Questions
Download the item challenge form (MS Word document, 34 KB).
Use the form to describe in detail the specific reasons you are challenging an exam question. Include the name of the exam, the time and date you took the exam, and the name and location of the testing center.
Note: Exam question challenges will be accepted for evaluation only for exams that have not been scheduled for retirement. Please include as much specific detail as possible to expedite review. Your challenge will not be accepted for evaluation unless the form is complete.
Within three calendar days of taking the exam, submit the form by e-mail with "Exam Item Evaluation" in the subject line. You must submit a separate form for each exam question you are challenging.
Your submission will be acknowledged by e-mail. At that time, you will receive either the result of the evaluation or, if more time is needed for evaluation, an estimate of when you can expect a decision.

| Q. |
Will a FiberOptic.com employee review and evaluate the exam question I am challenging? |
| A. |
A FiberOptic.com employee will conduct an initial evaluation. If further
evaluation is needed, an independent subject-matter expert (technical and
job-function expert) will review and evaluate the request. This process may
require evaluation by a number of people, and each provides input. We appreciate
your patience while your challenge is reviewed thoroughly.
|
| Q. |
Will I find out whether my answer to a specific question was correct or whether I would have passed if I had gotten it right? |
| A. |
To help protect exam security, we cannot provide information about whether
your answer was correct, nor can we provide information about how your
performance on that question may have affected your final score.
|
| Q. |
What if I don't agree with the evaluator's decision? May I appeal it? |
| A. |
Before any exam is released, each question is reviewed carefully by independent
subject matter experts to ensure technical accuracy, clarity, relevance, and
absence of ambiguity and bias. The beta exam process further helps eliminate
any questionable content. By the time an exam is released in its live version,
each question has been reviewed multiple times. When a candidate submits a
question challenge, the process adds an additional review. Given the nature
of the independent subject matter experts and the respect they garner from
the fiber optic community, we consider their evaluation as final.
|
| Q. |
Will I be given the rationale for the decision? |
| A. |
To help protect exam security, the rationale for the decision will be kept
confidential and will not be provided. The evaluation will remain a part of
FiberOptic.com 's records until the exam is retired.
|
| Q. |
I took an exam and think I should have passed it, but I didn't. Also, I didn't think my testing experience was as good as it should have been. Can I challenge my score and give feedback about what happened at the testing center? |
| A. |
We appreciate your feedback about the FOCP program and your testing experience
and work to ensure your satisfaction with the FOCP program. If you feel the
testing experience did not meet your expectations, your first point of contact
should be with the testing center itself. You may also send an e-mail message
to the FOCP program to offer other types of feedback.
|
| Q. |
Who should I contact if I discover an individual cheating, selling exam questions and answers, or if I have found a Web site disclosing FiberOptic.com certification exam information? |
| A. |
Send an e-mail message to the FOCP program and include as much information as
possible about the situation and the persons involved. Anonymous tips are always
appreciated; however, we ask that you please include your full contact
information so that someone from FiberOptic.com can contact you to discuss
the details.
