FiberOptic.com Certified Installer (CFI)
Certification identifies you as a technician
who has knowledge of basic concepts of fiber
optics installation and service which are
applicable to all the functions required to
safely and competently install fiber optics
communications cabling.
FiberOptic.com has developed a
comprehensive, integrated training program
to meet the needs of designers, installers
and users of fiber optic products. Courses
are structured for each application's unique
needs: telecommunications, cable television,
access, local and wide area networks,
wireless networks, intelligent
transportation systems (ITS) and power
utilities.
Objectives
Fiber Optic Installers are expected to
obtain knowledge of basic concepts of fiber
optics installation and service which are
applicable to all the functions required to
safely and competently install fiber optics
communications cabling. Once a CFOI has
acquired these skills, abilities and
knowledge, he or she should be able to enter
employment in the telecommunications cabling
field. With minimal training in areas unique
to the special requirements of individual
products or systems designs, the Fiber
Optics Installer should become a profitable
and efficient part of the workforce
Certification Requirements
To get certified you need to:
1. Complete the
Certified Fiber Optic Installer Training
(FOT-CFI) Course.
2. Pass
FiberOptic.com Exam (FOT-CFI).
3. Proper completion of the following
thirteen
additional labs.
| • | Assembly a Patch Cord to EIA\TIA 568 B.3 Standards |
| • | Assembly a mechanical splice that meets or exceeds EIA\TIA 568 B.3 Standards |
| • | Perform a fusion splice |
| • | Measure the bi-directional loss in a splice with a light source and power meter |
| • | Measure the bi-directional loss in a fiber optic link with a power meter and light source |
| • | Measure the bi-directional in a fiber optic mated connector pair with a power meter and light source |
| • | Inspect a connector end face |
| • | Successfully identify selected fiber optic system components |
| • | Splice Tray Preparation |
| • | Fan-out kit assembly |
| • | OTDR Testing |
| • | Visual Inspection |
| • | Cable Preparation |
