Master in Testing (2 days)

Objectives

In this extensive hands-on training each student will:

  • Set up and calibrate equipment appropriate for each task
  • Test a link representative of each environment

Each Student will use multiple types of test equipment from at least two different manufactures including Power Meter and Light Sources and application specific OTDRs.

As a masters level course, it is recommended that students have had several years of field experience or have taken our CFI or OSP course prior to enrolling.

Summary

Target Audience

FiberOptic.com's Master in Testing (TR-MFT) program is designed for experienced fiber optic installers and technicians seeking a better understanding of fiber network testing and an enhancement of their testing interpretation skills.

This course is designed for experienced fiber optic installers, technicians, and communications specialists involved in the communications, construction, utility, service and maintenance and troubleshooting industries. This course is an excellent opportunity for current FiberOptic.com or ETA certification holders at the installer, technical or design level.

The following knowledge or experience level is recommended:

  • 3-5 years fiber optic installation experience or equivalent
  • Prior knowledge of basic testing equipment and procedures
  • Be a Fiberoptic.com professional certified Technician or Master in Splicing (desired)
  • Be a FiberOptic.com fiber technician, or other industry certification (equivalent)

After taking this course, students will become testing specialists who are better able to troubleshoot network problems, analyze traces, and calibrate different types of OTDRs. Students will also be well prepared to learn expert fiber characterization techniques.

Exam: Master Fiber Optic Tester

This exam must be passed in order to qualify for a certificate in our Master Fiber Optic Tester course. This exam will consist of a combination of multiple-choice, fill in, diagram drawing, or other similar questions. More information about this specific exam will be given during the Master Fiber Optic Tester lecture (either online or in person.)
