Objectives

Certified Fiber Installer training will provide the student with the necessary knowledge and skills to:

  • Layout, install or maintain fiber optic cabling systems
  • Demonstrate a practical knowledge of fiber optic theory, codes, standards and installation practices
  • Demonstrate a practical knowledge of individual hands-on skills including:
    • Performing industry standard fiber optic terminations
    • Preparing cables for inside and outside applications
    • Performing fusion splicing and splice tray preparation
    • Testing with the OTDR and optical loss test equipment

Summary

This fiber optic installation training course is designed for those who layout, install or maintain fiber optic cabling systems. It identifies you as an installer able to demonstrate a practical knowledge of fiber optic theory, codes, standards and practices widely accepted in the fiber optics industry. In addition, this training incorporates two days of individual hands-on training validating installer skills, including fiber terminations, cable preparations, fusion splicing, OTDR and optical loss testing. These skills are applicable to all the requirements to safely and competently install, maintain, and test fiber optic cabling systems.

Course Type

This fiber optic installation course is currently offered with a self-paced, online lecture and a hands-on workshop. This innovative approach to Fiber Optic Training and certification allows students to minimize expense, time and travel by learning at their own pace, on their own schedule (using online e-Learning to complete the lecture portion of the class.) Students may then complete the hands-on portions of the class at any of our scheduled sessions around the world (and can review the material within one year of registering for the course.) If online training is not ideal for your learning style, a more traditional instructor-lead lecture or question and answer section is available upon request depending upon the location and the size of the class. Target Audience

Certified Fiber Installer is designed for new or experienced personnel seeking a deeper understanding of the installation of fiber optic cabling systems.

Candidates for this course don't have to have any knowledge or experience in the following areas, but it may be useful:

  • Connectors and Terminations
  • Enclosures and Panels
  • Test Equipmemt

While not a required prerequisite, this course builds on the knowledge gained from our Fiber Optic Fundamentals Course. It is recommended that workers with no fiber optic experience take the online Fiber Optic Fundamentals Course (link) prior to this one.

This course is excellent for anyone involved in the construction, education, commercial, industrial, or utility markets and anyone who designs, installs, maintains, or tests fiber optic cabling systems.

Benefits

This course gives students a practical understanding of fiber optic technology and the skills needed to install, test, and maintain fiber optic cabling systems. Students will learn and practice fiber optic connectorization, splicing, and testing in two full days of hands-on labs and live demonstrations.

This exam must be passed in order to qualify for a certificate in our Certified Fiber Optic Installer course. This exam will consist of a combination of multiple-choice, fill in, diagram drawing, or other similar questions. More information about this specific exam will be given during the Certified Fiber Optic Installer lecture (either online or in person.)
